Legal Battle in Bishkek City Court Over Parliamentarian Mandate

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

A legal process regarding a mandate of a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh is underway in the city court of Bishkek. The current parliamentarian, Shailoobek Atazov, has filed a complaint challenging the Central Election Commission's actions towards the candidate Abdurakhmanhaji Murtazaliev.

The court session has been adjourned until April 5, as announced by the court's press service. Previously, on March 1, the Administrative Court recognized Abdurakhmanhaji Murtazaliev as the elected deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh for the Sverdlovsk electoral district in February 2022.

In the February 2022 elections for the Sverdlovsk district, Abdurakhmanhaji Murtazaliev emerged as the winner. However, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Administrative Court of the capital and the Central Election Commission's ruling to cancel Murtazaliev's registration. Subsequently, Shailoobek Atazov became the deputy from the Sverdlovsk district.

Abdurakhmanhaji Murtazaliev was disqualified based on the testimonies of two women, whom the candidate claimed he had no relations with and they were not his campaigners.
