Deputy Ruslanbek Zhakyshev criticized the mayor of Bishkek for the traffic jams in the city, stating that the city leader should have shown results within three months. With the city's population reaching 2 million, there has been no progress in addressing the issue. Roads remain congested, and garbage is not collected on time. The deputy highlighted that if the mayor fails to show results within the specified time frame, he should be dismissed. It has been six months already, and the traffic jams have worsened throughout the day.
In response, Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov mentioned plans to construct four overpass bridges this year to tackle the traffic congestion. He acknowledged that the "Safe City" project did not perform well at the national level, hence giving mayors of Bishkek and Osh the authority to regulate traffic flow. The Prime Minister assured that the problem of traffic jams would be resolved within three years.
Japarov also emphasized the need for behavioral changes, pointing out that many vehicles on the roads only carry one person each, leading to unnecessary congestion. He mentioned measures such as restricting heavy vehicles during the day in Bishkek and adjusting school and work hours to alleviate traffic congestion. The government is taking steps to address the issue and improve the overall traffic situation in the city.
