Election Commission to Appeal Court Decision on Kyrgyzstan Parliament Seat

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Central Election Commission will challenge the Administrative Court of Bishkek's decision to recognize Abdurakhmanhajji Murtazaliev as the elected deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh. Abdyjapar Bekmatov, a member of the CEC, stated that lawyers are preparing an appeal to the Bishkek City Court. Bekmatov noted that the CEC will request the higher instance to uphold its previous decisions regarding the parliamentary candidates Murtazaliev and Shailoobek Atazov.

In February 2022, Abdurakhmanhajji Murtazaliev won the elections in the Sverdlovsk district. However, the Supreme Court supported the decision of the Administrative Court of the capital to annul Murtazaliev's registration. As a result, Shailoobek Atazov became the deputy of the Sverdlovsk district. Murtazaliev was disqualified due to allegations from two women, whom he claimed he had no relations with and who were not his campaign workers.
