Hospitals in Crisis: Medication Shortages Threaten Healthcare System

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

Medical professionals in hospitals are raising concerns about the shortage of medications, as reported by Bermet Baryktabasova, an expert in evidence-based medicine and the head of the Independent Medical Trade Union, on her Facebook page.

Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, Dastan Bekeshev, has also highlighted the issue of medication shortages.

Baryktabasova stated that hospitals are sounding the alarm, warning of a potential social catastrophe due to medication shortages.

She criticized the pharmaceutical reform, stating that medications are either unavailable or running out in hospitals. Requests for medication supply based on needs have not been fulfilled, and hospitals are running out of basic daily medications.

According to Baryktabasova, there is a shortage of emergency, resuscitation, pediatric, and cardiological medications, contraceptives, and means for safe medical abortions - all essential medicines that are not being provided by pharmacies.

Bekeshev reported that there are 50 medications currently facing shortages.
