Bishkek City Court Upholds Decision on Invalidating Parliamentary Election Results

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Bishkek City Court rejected the appeal of Zhogorku Kenesh deputy Baktybek Choybekov against the Administrative Court's decision. Previously, the Administrative Court of the capital invalidated the results of parliamentary elections in the Talas district two years ago, in response to a petition by candidate Emilbek Abdykadrov.

The Bishkek City Court upheld the Administrative Court's ruling. On February 22, former mayor Emilbek Abdykadrov requested the Central Election Commission to review and invalidate the election results for candidate Baktybek Choybekov, citing evidence of vote-buying during the elections in the Talas district.

In the 2021 elections, Emilbek Abdykadrov ran as a candidate for the Zhogorku Kenesh in the Talas district. However, Baktybek Choybekov received the highest number of votes at 34.65%. He currently serves as a deputy in the seventh convocation of the parliament.
