During the latest session of the city council, deputies in Bishkek approved the annexation of territories to the city as specified in a presidential decree. This information was confirmed by the city hall.

As a result, the capital's area has increased from 12.9 thousand hectares to 38.6 thousand hectares.

The territories added to the city include rural districts of Orok and Novopavlovka in the Sokuluk district; the rural district of Kok-Zhar in the Alamudin district; the village of Orto-Sai in the Tash-Deben rural district of the Alamudin district; the residential area of Anar-Bak and contours No. 544, 545, 552 in the Kara-Zhygach rural district of the Alamudin district; the rural districts of Maevka, Prigorodny in the Alamudin district; the residential area of Altyn-Kazyk in the Ak-Deben rural district of the Alamudin district; contour No. 177 in the village of Ak-Zhol in the At-Bashi rural district of the Sokuluk district; the rural districts of Alamudin, Nizhnyaya Ala-Archa, Lebedinovka in the Alamudin district; the village of Mykan; and the residential areas of Ak-Zhar, Nurkozho-Ata, and Adilet in the Leninsky rural district of the Alamudin district.

It is worth noting that Kyrgyzstan has initiated an administrative territorial reform in a pilot mode in six regions, Bishkek, and Osh. This reform aims to consolidate rural districts and cities, almost tripling the capital's territory while keeping the number of administrative districts the same. The mayor will now have the authority to approve budgets and tariffs.
