Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry Meets Russian Embassy Representative Over Diplomatic Incident

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently convened a meeting with Andrey Buryev, the advisor-consul of the Russian Embassy in Bishkek, concerning the search of Kyrgyz ambassador's advisor, Manas Zholdoshbekov, in Moscow. The Kyrgyz officials expressed their concerns regarding the actions of Russian law enforcement officers towards the ambassador's family members, which were deemed to be in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

The Kyrgyz side emphasized that such actions against accredited employees of their diplomatic mission by Russian authorities are unacceptable and warrant a comprehensive investigation and accountability for those responsible. Andrey Buryev expressed regret over the incident and indicated that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received an official note from the Kyrgyz authorities. An investigation is currently underway, and the Kyrgyz side will be updated on the outcomes.

Additionally, Member of the Jogorku Kenesh, Dastan Bekeshev, was able to establish contact with Manas Zholdoshbekov to gather further details, which he later shared on his Twitter account.

It is worth noting that on April 8, two police officers conducted a search at the residence of Manas Zholdoshbekov in Moscow, who serves as the advisor to the Kyrgyz ambassador, to verify the legality of his stay as a foreign citizen in the city.
