Kyrgyz MP Opposes Additional Tax on Gasoline, Urges to Improve Investment Climate

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a meeting of the Transport, Communications, Architecture, and Construction Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Eldar Abakirov expressed his concern over the government's proposal to introduce an extra non-tax levy of 1 som per liter of gasoline.

Abakirov pointed out that currently, there is a tax of 5,000 soms per ton of gasoline, and adding another 1 som per liter would create an additional burden on the people. He questioned the Ministry of Economy's stance on this proposal, highlighting the need to simplify the tax system to attract more investors.

In response, Deputy Minister of Economy Iskender Asylkulov defended the proposal, stating that Kyrgyzstan already has numerous non-tax payments in place. Abakirov argued that despite being labeled as a non-tax levy, the additional charge essentially functions as a tax, which could hinder the investment climate in the country.

He suggested removing the proposed levy and instead increasing the excise tax to 5,100 soms to avoid complicating the tax system further. Abakirov emphasized the importance of maintaining a favorable investment climate to attract more investors to the country.
