Kyrgyz Prime Minister Discusses Cooperation with IMF Officials in Washington

During a working visit to Washington, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov met with IMF Deputy Managing Director Bo Li to discuss collaboration on climate change, energy, and green economy.

Japarov highlighted Kyrgyzstan's economic growth of 7% over the past three years, attributing it to tax administration improvements and digital technology implementation. The Prime Minister also addressed the current macroeconomic situation in the country, emphasizing energy projects like the construction of Kambarata-1 HPP.

Japarov expressed readiness to explore various cooperation options for this strategic project, considering its potential dividends for energy security and economic growth. Bo Li shared insights on global economic challenges such as inflation acceleration, food security threats, and natural disasters.

He mentioned plans to visit Kyrgyzstan in 2024. Both parties agreed to maintain active collaboration on all priority issues discussed during the meeting. Additionally, Japarov met with IMF Director for the Middle East and Central Asia region Jihad Azour, focusing on government reforms to enhance financial efficiency, private sector development, and anti-corruption efforts.

Japarov stressed the importance of constructive dialogue and technical cooperation with the IMF in achieving strategic goals, noting an unprecedented 8.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of 2024.
