Challenges Ahead for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The launch of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will open up trade opportunities within the region, but not to the extent desired by Kyrgyz Republic, according to Stanislav Pritchin from the Russian Academy of Sciences. The railway is set to pass through the southern part of Kyrgyzstan, while the main economic centers are in the north, posing a challenge for full utilization in intra-regional trade.

Pritchin highlighted that transportation is becoming a focal point of geopolitical competition, with significant competition and varying levels of economic viability among projects. Not all projects are competitive or economically feasible, emphasizing the complexities surrounding the current state of transportation geopolitics.
