U.S. and Kyrgyzstan Strengthen Partnership Through Annual Consultations

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asian Affairs, John Mark Pommersheim, arrived in Bishkek for the annual bilateral consultations. He met with Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister Aibek Moldogaziev to discuss political, security cooperation, civil society, rule of law, and economic diversification.

The U.S. Embassy posted a message on their social media page stating that the consultations contribute to shared interests and partnership. Discussions included political and security cooperation, civil society, rule of law, and economic diversification.

A joint statement was released on the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, highlighting the successful consultations. Both sides referenced the September 2023 "C5+1" summit in New York, emphasizing its positive impact on regional cooperation.

The U.S. and Kyrgyz Republic reaffirmed their commitment to remain partners in politics and security. They discussed joint efforts in counterterrorism, border security, healthcare safety, and defense cooperation.

The United States reiterated its unwavering support for Kyrgyzstan's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence during their 32-year bilateral partnership. Washington expressed support for the development of the creative economy.

Both parties discussed prospects for establishing connections, exchanging ideas, and showcasing the latest trends and technologies. American businessmen will increase investments, including in the green economy and agriculture.

The focus shifted to civil society and rule of law. Kyrgyzstan and the U.S. recognized that media freedom, a strong civil society, human rights, including women's rights, judicial independence, and anti-corruption efforts are essential for building a sustainable, prosperous, and secure Kyrgyz Republic.

The joint statement highlighted the importance of emphasizing English language education to strengthen ties. The next annual consultations in 2025 will take place in Washington.
