Kyrgyz Parliament Passes Law Holding Users of Electric Scooters Accountable for Accidents

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Jogorku Kenesh has approved a bill that introduces liability for people using mobile means of transportation (electric scooters, hoverboards, unicycles, and others) for traffic accidents and collisions with pedestrians. All these forms of transport have been grouped under the term "mobile means of transportation," with amendments made to the Road Traffic Law and the Code of Administrative Offenses.

The fine for violating traffic rules has been set at 1,000 soms. For driving under the influence, the fine is 3,000 soms.

Additionally, companies renting out mobile means of transportation may be required to provide training to renters and impose age restrictions. For example, scooters will not be rented to children under 14 years old.

After approval by the Jogorku Kenesh, the bill will be sent to the president for final approval.
