Kyrgyzstan has officially joined the International Maritime Organization (IMO), becoming the 176th member state. The country's representative submitted the accession document to the IMO Convention at the United Nations. The Secretary-General of the IMO, Arsenio Domingues, announced the new member state during a subcommittee meeting.

The IMO Secretariat provides support to its member states in their interactions with the organization's governing and technical bodies, fostering collaboration with other member states. Additionally, assistance is given in establishing permanent representations at the organization and accrediting representatives in accordance with the IMO headquarters agreement.

The International Maritime Organization, headquartered in London, is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its main objective is to ensure the safety and reliability of shipping, as well as to prevent marine pollution by ships.
