Central Election Commission Confirms Winner in Early Batken District Election

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has determined the results of the early elections of a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh in the Batken electoral district. This information was reported by the Central Election Commission's press service.

The elected deputy is recognized as Baktyyar Kalpaev, who received 11,830 votes (41.4 percent).

On April 28, elections were held for the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh in Batken No. 2, Osh No. 7, and Kara-Suu No. 9 single-mandate electoral districts. The seats in the parliament became vacant after the airing of reports on the "Region TV" channel, owned by the head of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) Kamchybek Tashiev, about the connections of certain deputies with former customs officer Raimbek Matraimov. Some of them declined their mandates.

In particular, the reports mentioned the brother of the former customs officer Iskender Matraimov, Aibek Osmonov, Shayloobek Atazov, and the initiator of the foreign agents bill Nadir Narmatov. Respondents noted that these members of the Jogorku Kenesh should voluntarily resign from their deputy powers or be deprived of their mandates.

First, the CEC prematurely terminated the powers of the member of the "Ata Zhurt Kyrgyzstan" faction Abdybakhap Boronbayev, who previously headed the Southwest Customs before entering parliament. The mandate was transferred to the next candidate on the party's electoral list - businessman Saidbek Zulpuev.

Subsequently, based on the submitted statements of mandate renunciation, the Central Election Commission prematurely terminated the powers of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh Iskender Matraimov, Nurlan Rajabaliyev, and Aibek Osmonov. Since they entered parliament from single-mandate districts, early elections were appointed in those districts by the president's decrees.
