Enhancing Energy Sector: Salaries Increased, Imports Reduced, and Independence Strengthened

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

Deputy Kunduzbek Sulaimanov requested the head of the Ministry of Energy, Taalaibek Ibraev, to increase the salaries of energy sector employees during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on fuel and energy complex, subsoil use, and industrial policy.

The deputy noted that he receives a lot of appeals on this issue, emphasizing the importance of addressing it promptly.

In response, Minister Ibraev stated that starting from May 1st, the salaries of energy workers have been increased by 10%. He further mentioned that over the past three years, 205 units of transport have been allocated to the energy sector.

He highlighted the reduction of imports as a priority, stating, "Every year we purchase coal for $35 million, which is about 600 thousand tons. This year, investors have begun mining coal at the Ak-Ulak deposit. Today, 10 thousand tons have been delivered to the thermal power plant. If it passes laboratory tests, we will reduce imports from $8 million to $12 million by 150 to 180 tons."

The efforts to boost domestic coal production and reduce dependency on imports are seen as crucial steps towards enhancing the energy sector's sustainability and self-sufficiency. The increase in salaries for energy sector employees reflects a commitment to improving working conditions and incentivizing professionals in the field.

Minister Ibraev's announcement regarding the successful delivery of coal from the Ak-Ulak deposit to the thermal power plant signifies progress towards achieving energy independence and reducing reliance on foreign sources. The potential cost savings resulting from decreased imports would contribute to the country's economic stability and energy security.

Overall, the discussions and decisions made during the parliamentary committee meeting shed light on the government's proactive approach to strengthening the energy sector and ensuring a stable and prosperous future for the industry and its workforce.
