Deputies Challenge Demolition of Buildings in Ataturk Park, Bishkek Upset

During a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Kamila Talieva raised the issue of demolishing buildings in Ataturk Park. She requested the Bishkek mayor's office to address the matter. "According to the latest information, on May 20, 198 buildings will be demolished in Ataturk Park. There are people living there who have honestly bought their homes. I am not defending corrupt officials. Let the mayor's office investigate this at a legal level. Who allocated these plots? Was it the mayor, other authorities, or the city council? Why are they not being held accountable? Residents are protesting, and some deputies have met with them," the deputy said.

Agreeing with his colleague, deputy Jalolidin Nurbayev added, "Residents of high-rise buildings have also approached us. They are concerned. The president announced a land amnesty. Perhaps we should declare it for these residents too? I believe people will not object, or we need to allocate land and create a new park. Residents have saved money for a long time and worked abroad to buy these homes. It is wrong to demolish buildings and evict citizens from there," he noted.

In April, Mayor Aibek Junushaliev signed a resolution approving the boundary of Ataturk Park. According to archival data from the Bishkekglavarchitectura Municipal Enterprise, 198 buildings fall within the return zone. However, the actual number, according to the city head, may be higher. The mayor's office assures that they will act within the framework of the law regarding real estate properties, prepare and file lawsuits in court. The municipality has forwarded materials to law enforcement agencies for legal assessment.
