President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, Vladimir Voronkov. The meeting focused on current international agenda issues and cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN, highlighting the crucial role of the organization in maintaining peace and security. President Japarov emphasized Kyrgyzstan's commitment to strengthening partnerships with all UN member states and specialized UN agencies for peaceful conflict resolution and combating modern challenges.
Kyrgyzstan strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and actively participates in the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. This strategy provides a solid foundation for effectively combating international terrorism. Regionally, Kyrgyzstan collaborates successfully with the UN and Central Asian countries in preventing extremism, fighting terrorism, and addressing related transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, money laundering, and terrorism financing.
President Japarov also discussed Kyrgyzstan's nomination as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. In response, Vladimir Voronkov expressed gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed greetings and best wishes from the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. Regarding Kyrgyzstan's candidacy for the UN Security Council, Voronkov noted the country's good chances of securing the position.
Voronkov highlighted Kyrgyzstan's close and productive cooperation with UN anti-terrorism institutions and structures. He proposed expanding collaboration by offering training and internships for young professionals from Kyrgyzstan in UN institutions. Additionally, Voronkov commended Kyrgyzstan's high level of preparedness in law enforcement and national security, along with the establishment of a robust legislative framework to advance the counter-terrorism agenda.
