Draft Law "On Mass Media" Revision Deadline Possible Extension Until Summer

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The deadline for revising the draft law "On Mass Media" may be extended until the end of the summer. This was reported by a lawyer, a member of the working group Tattububu Ergeshbaeva. According to her, if such a decision is made, it may even be beneficial: there will be more time to prepare a high-quality document.

"There were no meetings this week," noted Tattububu Ergeshbaeva.

Deputy Minister of Culture Chyngyz Esengul uulu commented, stating that the process is ongoing, and so far, all members of the working group have managed to reach a consensus on key controversial points. "There is a chance, a good one, that after the finalization, a version approved by all discussion participants will be presented for public discussion," he said.

It is worth reminding that in early March, the country's president held a closed meeting with the leaders of the leading mass media and well-known journalists. Among other issues, representatives of the media raised the issue of the media law. Sadyr Japarov promised to look into it.

On March 13, his press secretary Askat Alagozov announced that, at the instruction of the head of state, the draft law on mass media had been withdrawn.
