in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a session of the parliamentary committee on international affairs, defense, security, and migration, Chingiz Aidarbekov proposed the creation of a Ministry of Water Resources. Aidarbekov highlighted the importance of neighboring countries focusing on energy and having already established such a ministry.

In response, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Murat Ramatov announced a resolution altering the government's structure, entrusting the Service of Water Resources with responsibilities regarding water resources, including surface and groundwater, irrigation, and more. The ministry's name will reflect this shift, prioritizing water resources over agriculture.

Aidarbekov mentioned plans for a committee meeting with government representatives to discuss energy and clean water supply. He expressed intent to propose the establishment of a separate Ministry or State Agency to regulate water-related issues.

Additionally, the session involved discussions on ratifying a grant agreement between the Kyrgyz government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for a project aimed at enhancing irrigation canal equipment, signed in Bishkek on December 11, 2023.
