Government approves modernization of secondary education structure

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Cabinet of Ministers has reviewed and approved the directive on the "Modernization of the Structure of Secondary Education," as reported by the government's press service. The decision aims to enhance the functional literacy and competencies of students by implementing global educational trends and adjusting the duration of schooling in the general education system.

This marks the phased transition of the school education system to a 12-year learning model. The educational content will be updated in line with modern educational trends to foster the development of a competitive human capital for the country's economic prosperity. With the shift to 12-year education, 100 percent of 5-6-year-old children will be covered by compulsory school education.

Teachers currently involved in preschool preparation programs will continue their teaching activities in the first grades during the 12-year education period after undergoing special qualification enhancement courses.

Currently, more than 4,048 classrooms for preschool preparation are set up in general education schools, equipped with age-appropriate educational furniture and materials. The need for additional student spaces will be addressed jointly with local authorities based on an inventory of school buildings and their material-technical provisions, as emphasized by the Cabinet of Ministers.
