Kyrgyzstan is exploring the possibility of introducing electronic remote voting in elections, as announced by the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Nurzhan Shayldabekova, at a forum in Moscow.
Shayldabekova stated that if the parliament and citizens of Kyrgyz Republic decide on remote electronic voting, this model will be implemented. She mentioned that a similar system was tested in 2023 during local elections.
The CEC chair emphasized that the implementation of remote and electronic voting is not a simple decision but should be the next step in a comprehensive integration of various forms and programs of electronic election management.
Shayldabekova assured that the country has been undergoing electoral system reform for ten years, with technologies not being an end in themselves. The reform aimed at democratizing the electoral system and ensuring the accuracy of election results and voter participation.
She highlighted the importance of transparency and accuracy in election results due to past post-election crises related to falsification. The focus on ensuring openness and credibility in voting outcomes is a top priority in the country.
