Tajikistan Enhances Training for Migrant Workers Heading to Russia and Beyond

in Economy / Tajikistan - by

Tajik workers are in high demand across Russia, Europe, the Far East, and the Middle East. To meet these needs, Tajikistan is intensifying efforts to prepare migrants with the necessary skills and language proficiency.

The State institution "Adult Education Center of Tajikistan" offers training in over 100 professions, adding new specialties annually. As part of the Asian Development Bank project, three modern migrant training centers are set to open in Khujand, Bokhtar, and Vose.

These centers will provide training in fields demanded in the labor market, along with international certification, foreign language instruction, financial literacy, and legal knowledge. This initiative aims to ensure Tajik citizens working abroad can earn higher wages.

Qualifications are becoming increasingly important for organizational recruitment, particularly for roles in high demand. Russia remains a priority destination for Tajik labor.

The Ministry of Labor is implementing an agreement with the Russian Federation through a working group. In 2023, around 6,500 Tajik citizens were employed abroad through this program, with approximately 77% heading to Russia.

Representatives from 40 employer companies from 13 countries, primarily from Russia, visited the Overseas Employment Agency in early 2024 to recruit Tajik workers.

Additionally, discussions on labor migration are ongoing, with a focus on diversifying migration destinations. Projects for intergovernmental agreements with various countries are in progress to expand opportunities for Tajik workers.

In December 2023, South Korea included Tajikistan in its employment system, offering work opportunities for up to two years, a more extended period compared to other countries like the UK.

With labor shortages in Western Europe, Tajik citizens have chances to find employment in Belgium, the Netherlands, and other countries. Negotiations for agreements with Belgium and the Netherlands are underway to address labor needs, including in agriculture.

There is also a promising opportunity in Dubai for pharmaceutical specialists proficient in Russian and Farsi.

In conclusion, this year presents numerous opportunities for Tajik workers globally. However, the Ministry of Labor emphasizes the importance of being well-prepared before heading abroad for work.
