Agricultural Production in Tajikistan Surges by 6.7% in 2024

The Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic reports that the gross agricultural production in all categories of farms for January-March 2024 amounted to just over 3 billion 530 million somoni. This is an increase of 6.7% compared to the same period in 2023. The volume of crop production was 112.4 million somoni, while livestock production reached 3 billion 418.5 million somoni, according to the agency.

According to the Plant Growing Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2024, spring sowing is being carried out on 440,727 hectares of land, with approximately 80% of the fields plowed as of April 29. Specifically, cotton is sown on more than 164,000 hectares, which is over 88.4% of the plan (186,000 hectares). During this period, potatoes have been planted on 18,187 hectares, accounting for 45.4% of the plan (slightly over 40,000 hectares).

Farmers in Tajikistan are currently engaged in sowing oilseeds, vegetables, melons, and fodder crops, with rates for many of them ranging from 50% and higher. Spring grain sowing has already been completed.

Overall, Tajikistan aims to harvest over 1.7 million tons of grains this year, including 998,000 tons of wheat, 432,000 tons of cotton, 1.1 million tons of potatoes, 2.7 million tons of other vegetables, including 752,000 tons of onions, and 874,000 tons of melons. The production of many of these crops exceeds the needs of the republic and is destined for export.
