The Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavki Zavkizoda, has urged the Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, to participate in financing the construction of the Rogun HPP, as well as solar and wind stations in the republic.
The proposal was well received by the financial institution, as reported by the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. The meeting took place on February 28 in Abu Dhabi during the 13th Conference of Ministers of WTO Member Countries.
Both sides expressed readiness to further expand trade and economic cooperation. The Abu Dhabi Development Fund is being considered as a potential investor in the Rogun project, according to the Tajik Ministry of Finance.
Negotiations are underway to attract funds from this Fund for the completion of Rogun, with an expected allocation of 5 billion somoni ($456 million) for the project this year. It is estimated that $1 billion annually is needed for the completion of the Rogun HPP, with a total project cost of $6.2 billion.
Since the project's resumption in 2008, over 40 billion somoni has been allocated.
