Despite facing external challenges, Tajikistan's economy has been steadily growing at an average rate of 7.7% annually from 2000 to 2023. The country's Gross Domestic Product has increased from 1.8 billion somoni in 2000 to 130.8 billion somoni in 2023, while the population's monetary income has grown from 1 billion to 113 billion somoni, a 113-fold increase.
This was announced by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavki Zavkizoda, during a meeting on April 8 in honor of Economist Day. The minister stated that the country's economy grew by 8.3% in 2023, mainly driven by a 12% increase in industrial production, a 9% growth in agriculture, a 22.5% rise in investments in fixed capital, a 16.6% increase in freight transportation, a 9.8% growth in passenger transportation, a 14.1% rise in paid services, and a 13.4% increase in trade turnover.
Zavkizoda highlighted that international financial organizations have recognized Tajikistan as a country with high rates of economic development. He emphasized that the state's ultimate goal is to ensure sustainable economic development by enhancing the efficiency of existing resources, exploring new development sources, and systematically improving the standard and quality of life for the people of Tajikistan.
