Increase in Number of Farming Households in Tajikistan Boosts Agricultural Sector

The number of farming households in Tajikistan has increased by 1,500 compared to last year, reaching 196,564 units. The State Committee on Land Management and Geodesy of the Republic of Tajikistan reported this development following its activities in the first quarter of 2024.

The total number of collective farmers in the country amounts to over 796,000 people, conducting agricultural activities on 5,100 hectares of land, representing more than 72% of the total agricultural land in Tajikistan.

In the Sughd region, 70,793 farming households are registered, owning over 990,000 hectares of land. In the Khatlon region, there are 73,693 farmers operating on a total agricultural land area of over 1.1 million hectares.

Approximately 915,487 farming households in the republican subordinate districts manage around 915,000 hectares of land. Additionally, over 2 million hectares of land, primarily pastures, are under the management of 16,591 farmers in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.

Around 40% of these lands are irrigated through pumping stations, with 15% being saline and 18% rocky. They contribute to over 90% of the total agricultural output, accounting for about 25% of the country's GDP.

The agricultural sector in Tajikistan provides employment for over 70% of the economically active population, with an average monthly salary of approximately 700 somoni.
