Tajik-Uzbek Investment Business Forum Strengthens Economic Cooperation

Over 600 business representatives, along with government officials from ministries, industry associations, and regional administrations, participated in the Tajik-Uzbek investment business forum on April 17th in Dushanbe, as reported by the Ministry of Investments, Industrial and Trade of Uzbekistan.

The event took place during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Dushanbe. The co-chairs of the event were the Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Usmonali Usmonzoda, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khojaev.

During the forum, priority areas for cooperation were identified, which include metallurgy, mining, renewable energy, engineering, and agriculture. The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan has tripled to $750 million in 2023 over the past eight years, with a 40% increase since the beginning of the year.

The Tajik-Uzbek Investment Company is set to implement 14 projects totaling $135 million. These projects focus on initiatives such as establishing a trade zone at the border crossing point of "Oybek-Fotehobod" and constructing two hydroelectric power stations in the Zarafshan market on Tajik territory.

Established in September 2021, the Tajik-Uzbek Investment Company initially had a capital of $12 million, which was later increased to $50 million. The Reconstruction and Development Fund provided 75% of the company's capital, while "Tajinvest" provided the remaining 25%.
