Export of precious stones and metals in the first quarter of the current year amounted to $298 million, as reported by the country's statistical agency. This is 1250.7 times higher compared to the same period in 2023.
The share of this production in the country's total export volume reached 48.5%.
Overall, the republic exported goods and products worth around $614 million in the first three months of this year.
The main country for Tajikistan's product sales was Switzerland, accounting for approximately 48.6%. This is likely due to the supply of precious metals and stones to that country.
Sources in the relevant Tajikistan authorities note that the export of precious metals, mainly monetary gold, increases when the inflow of money transfers from labor migrants significantly decreases.
Information on these transfers is not provided to the media representatives.
The connection between gold sales and the inflow of money transfers is explained by the shortage of currency for importing goods and products.
The revenue from exports can cover only about a third of the currency needed for importing goods and products.
The total import volume in the first quarter of this year amounted to around $1.5 billion, almost 2.5 times higher than the country's export volume.
