The Embassy of Kazakhstan handed over 15,000 tons of mazut to the Agency for State Material Reserves under the government of Tajikistan on the eve of March 12th, as humanitarian assistance. The Kazakh diplomatic mission's press service reported that Ambassador Valikhan Turekhanov, during the fuel transfer ceremony, highlighted that this aid was provided on the instructions of Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The ambassador emphasized that the cost of the fuel provided for the "stable operation of important energy facilities in the country" amounts to approximately $5.7 million. The total volume of Kazakhstan's humanitarian aid to Tajikistan in 2023 reached around $2 million.

According to the country's Ministry of Energy data, Tajikistan imported about 23,000 tons of mazut last year. Therefore, the mazut received on the eve accounts for over 65.2% of last year's import of this fuel.

In Tajikistan itself, only about 3,900 tons of mazut were produced last year through the processing of local raw materials. Mazut in Tajikistan is mainly used by the Dushanbe Thermal Power Plant to generate heat and electricity during the autumn-winter period.

It is worth noting that a large part of the capital is currently supplied with electricity by thermal power stations due to its acute shortage. At present, residents in the regions of the country receive electricity for only a few hours a day. Since the end of February, there have also been periodic power outages in the capital.
