A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by the Deputy Minister of Education A. Amanov, has been in the Astrakhan region since April 22 to participate in cultural events marking the 300th anniversary of Mahtumkuli Fraghi. The Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this visit.
As part of their visit, the delegation laid flowers at the monument of Mahtumkuli Fraghi in the square opposite the V.N. Tatishchev Astrakhan State University. The event was attended by Turkmen delegates, the Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan G. Ilamanov, the Minister of Education of the Astrakhan region M. Shalaka, and Turkmen students studying at the Astrakhan State University.
The Turkmen delegation also took part in the opening of the Mahtumkuli Fraghi Museum at the Turkmen school in the village of Funtovo in the Astrakhan region. The new museum received valuable exhibits, including the poet's books, paintings depicting him, Turkmen national musical instruments, household items, and crafts. A drawing competition and exhibition on the theme "The Treasure Trove of Mahtumkuli Fraghi's Wisdom" were held among the school students.
