The 60th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art has kicked off in Venice, offering visitors 30 exhibition projects curated by Adriano Pedrosa. The main exhibition, "Foreigners Everywhere," features over 300 artists from Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia, with 90 national pavilions including Uzbekistan showcasing their own projects.
The Uzbekistan Pavilion, located at the Venetian Arsenal, presents the project "Don't Miss the Cue," in line with the biennale's theme focusing on migration and decolonization. Curated by the Tashkent Center of Contemporary Art, the exhibition explores migration through the experiences of Central Asian women, incorporating hand embroidery and traditional patterns reinterpreted with artificial intelligence.
Led by artist Aziza Kadiri and the "Qizlar Collective," the pavilion transforms into a theatrical backstage filled with interactive installations based on traditional costumes. The project delves into the stories of women, collective practices, and the complex relationships between the physical body and its surroundings.
The exhibition aims to redefine interactions with cultural and historical heritage, particularly textiles and costumes associated with traditionally "female" crafts, using art and technology to explore contemporary Uzbek identity. The National Pavilion of Uzbekistan at the Arsenal will remain open until the conclusion of the Venice Biennale in November.
