Uzbekistan President Welcomes UN Delegation to Strengthen Women's Rights Initiatives

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 14 welcomed a delegation from the United Nations headed by the Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Sima Sami Bahous, as reported by the state leader's press service.

The UN delegation is in the country as part of the Asian Women's Forum program, events of which have been taking place in Samarkand these days.

During the meeting, the parties discussed deepening the constructive partnership between Uzbekistan and UN Women. The opening of a UN Women office in Uzbekistan was supported.

The statement highlights that Uzbekistan has acceded to all major international conventions in the field of protecting the rights and promoting the interests of women, actively participating in the work of the relevant UN Commission.

The parties highly appreciated the fruitful outcomes of the Asian Women's Forum, emphasizing the importance of its transformation into a permanent platform for dialogue on expanding women's rights in the Asian region.

The necessity of adopting a bilateral Cooperation Program for the medium term, including specific projects and activities, including regional cooperation, was emphasized.
