On May 1st, a ceremony took place for the handover of medical equipment as part of the Japanese grant aid project "Project for Improving Medical Equipment at the National Medical Complex 'Shifobakhsh' and the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery" at the National Medical Center "Shifobakhsh" and the Republican Center for Cardiovascular Surgery in Dushanbe.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan Aiki Toshichiro, and the head of the JICA Representation in Tajikistan Seiju Imai.

Recognizing the importance of improving the quality of medical services in Tajikistan, the government of Japan allocated 957,000,000 Japanese yen (approximately 6.5 million US dollars) through JICA for the implementation of this project.

The project aims to address the shortage of medical equipment and strengthen diagnostic and treatment systems in hospitals, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of medical services at the National Medical Center "Shifobakhsh" and the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery.

Emphasizing the importance of Tajik-Japanese cooperation, the Minister of Health stated that the provided modern equipment will enhance the efficiency of medical services in hospitals and improve healthcare outcomes for the Tajik people.

The head of the JICA Representation assured that the Agency continues to support the healthcare sector through various projects to provide higher quality medical services to the country's population.

Furthermore, JICA will dispatch an expert in social protection for vulnerable children and families this year and will continue technical cooperation beyond 2026. Both sides agreed on the importance of proper management and maintenance of medical equipment to ensure its sustainable use and operation.

The medical equipment includes 42 units, such as angiography systems, ultrasound lithotripters, computer tomographs, ultrasound scanners, artificial lung ventilation devices, surgical X-ray machines with C-arms, and other modern medical equipment.

It is expected that this equipment will significantly expand the healthcare infrastructure in Tajikistan and enhance the capabilities of hospitals in diagnosing and treating various life-threatening diseases.

This landmark initiative is evidence of the strong partnership between Tajikistan and Japan, underscoring their shared commitment to healthcare development and improving the well-being of the Tajik people.
