In the Turkestan region, tomatoes with a dangerous virus imported from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were detected at phytosanitary checkpoints.

On June 2, the Committee of State Inspection in the agro-industrial complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced this information.

"This year, through phytosanitary checkpoints located in the Turkestan region, 15637.802 tons of tomato products were imported, transported on 1075 vehicles. However, due to violations of phytosanitary requirements (lack of phytosanitary certificate, labeling), quarantine products - tomatoes, totaling 29.522 tons, were returned to the exporting country," the statement said.

It is noted that each batch of tomatoes, eggplants, sweet peppers imported from other countries underwent the corresponding quarantine phytosanitary examination (PCR), which revealed the "Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus."

"Due to product contamination, 56.1 tons of tomatoes were returned to the Republic of Turkmenistan, and 4.2 tons to the Republic of Uzbekistan. Also, since the beginning of 2024, 497.624 tons of imported quarantine products that do not meet phytosanitary requirements have been returned at phytosanitary control points," the press release stated.

Earlier, it was reported that in the Zhambyl region, almost 40 tons of infected cherries were detected at phytosanitary checkpoints. These cherries were intended to be transported from Kyrgyzstan to the Russian Federation through Kazakhstan.
