The UN compiles an annual ranking of the happiest countries, measuring factors such as GDP per capita, life expectancy, corruption levels, and self-reported well-being. Finland has been named the happiest country for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Denmark and Iceland. Afghanistan was ranked as the unhappiest.
Notably, for the first time since the ranking's inception, neither the USA nor Germany made it to the top 20 happiest countries. Tajikistan was placed 89th out of 143 countries, lower than its Central Asian counterparts Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, ranked 47th, 49th, and 75th respectively. However, Tajikistanis feel happier than people in Turkey and Georgia.
In the past year, Tajikistan dropped from 83rd place to 89th, indicating a decrease in happiness levels over the last two years. The report also analyzed happiness levels by age, revealing a gradual decline in average happiness as people age worldwide, including in Tajikistan. The happiest age group was found to be individuals aged 15 to 24.
