Tajik-Origin Teacher Competes for "Best Teacher in America-2024" with Inspiring Journey

in Society / Tajikistan - by

Parvina Sharipova, a talented teacher of Tajik origin, is participating in the America's Favourite Teacher contest, representing the many successful individuals born in Tajikistan who excel beyond the country's borders. She may become the "Best Teacher in America-2024."

Born and raised in Dushanbe, Parvina's parents have been living in Russia since the early 90s. Despite this, she stayed with her grandmother due to her parents' inability to take her with them. Coming from a family of educators, with her grandmother once being a school principal, Parvina was motivated to follow the same path and aspire to be not just the best teacher but also a caring mentor for her students.

After completing her studies at the Foreign Language Faculty of the Pedagogical University named after S. Aini, Parvina taught at the preparatory class of Quality School International Dushanbe (QSID). In 2018, she won the Green Card lottery and decided to pursue the American Dream, leaving behind her beloved school, students, and hometown for New York, where she has been living and working successfully for 6 years.

Working at a small Preschool in Brooklyn with a curriculum approved by the Department of Education, Parvina prepares four-year-old children for school by teaching them the alphabet, reading, writing, counting, drawing, physical education, ethics, and other essential subjects. Comparing education in Tajikistan and the USA, she notes the pros and cons of each system, emphasizing the importance of adaptability for professionals from other countries working in the US.

Supported by her parents and her spouse, whom she met on Facebook and is currently in a long-distance relationship with, Parvina eagerly awaits their reunion. With the ongoing voting until June 7, the day will be decisive in determining the "Best Teacher in America." People can show their support by voting on the website where the finalists will be selected based on public votes.

If she wins the $25,000 prize for the first place, Parvina plans to complete her university education, contribute to charity in Tajikistan, pay off her loans in the US, and purchase necessary materials for her work. As she continues her journey in the contest, the support from Tajikistanis, Tajiks from New York and Russia, and her students' parents is greatly appreciated by Parvina.
