in Society / Tajikistan - by

In the rural health center "Mirzo Tursunzoda" in the Shahrinav district, a training session on HIV infection prevention and tolerant attitudes towards people living with HIV was conducted. The training involved 25 healthcare workers from nearby medical centers such as "Mulloshodi," "Khasanov," "Adjam," "Obodon," and "Nurafshon."

The trainers conducted presentations, group work, and practical exercises during the session. The goal of the event was to increase awareness of HIV infection among the healthcare personnel of the Primary Health Care Network to improve medical and social services for people living with HIV.

The presentation also covered information on the global prevalence of HIV and the local situation in Tajikistan. Additionally, cases of discrimination and stigma in society were addressed and explained. The main causes of HIV infection, as well as its symptoms and subsequent diagnosis, were discussed.

Healthcare workers received practical information interactively with individual tasks. Pre-tests (37.7%) and post-tests (71.2%), consisting of 15 questions, were used to assess the participants' knowledge levels on the topic.

The results showed a successful increase in awareness percentage after the training. This training was organized as part of the project "BaSIC - Creating an Integrated Primary Health Care System in Tajikistan," funded by the European Union (EU) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ), and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
