The sacred month of Ramadan in Tajikistan will commence on March 11 this year. The Committee on Religious Affairs of Tajikistan announced this today, on March 4, and published the Ramadan calendar.
The country's Council of Ulema made the decision to start the holy month based on the conclusion of the Institute of Astrophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
The Council also declared the amount of sadaqat al-fitr (charity during Ramadan) to be 7 somoni. Zakat this year will amount to 880 somoni, to be given by believers who have excess funds – no less than 35,275 somoni.
Fidya for those unable to fast or for missed fasting days during the holy month will be 420 somoni for 30 days (14 somoni per day).
Ramadan fasting consists of abstaining from food and drink from dawn to sunset. The timing of suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (evening meal) may vary depending on the geographical locations of different regions and cities in the country.
