In early March 2024, Turkmenistan's National Leader and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Turkey to participate in the third Antalya Diplomatic Forum. The visit aimed to deepen the strategic Turkmen-Turkish partnership across various key areas beyond the forum.

During high-level talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, both leaders emphasized enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economy, energy, transport, and humanitarian sectors. The principle of "One nation, two states" underpins their strong foundation for constructive interaction.

A significant moment was Erdogan being honored with the title of "Honorary Elder of the Turkmen People" for his contributions to strengthening Turkmen-Turkish friendship. This gesture symbolized the unbreakable bond between the two nations, rooted in shared history, culture, and values.

Berdimuhamedov's visit began with a warm reception from Erdogan, showcasing the special Turkmen-Turkish relations. Traditional Turkmen hospitality was evident as children presented Berdimuhamedov with flowers, reflecting deep respect for their shared roots and cultural heritage.

The exchange of gifts further highlighted the close ties, with Erdogan receiving a unique Turkmen national attire, emphasizing the deep symbolism rooted in Turkic culture. The traditional headpiece, made from natural materials by Turkmen craftsmen, signifies special gratitude and appreciation.

The generous gift not only paid tribute to the Turkish leader but also symbolized the intergenerational connection, embodying the unwavering friendship between Turkmen and Turkish people. Berdimuhamedov personally congratulated Erdogan on his 70th birthday, bestowing him with the title of "Respected Elder of the Turkmen People."

The Turkmen-Turkish energy partnership saw new horizons during the visit, with significant agreements signed to enhance cooperation in the gas sector. The declaration on hydrocarbon resource collaboration opens avenues for Turkmen natural gas exports to Turkey through swap operations via third countries.

Given Turkmenistan's substantial gas reserves, intensified gas cooperation with Turkey aligns strategically. Both sides also agreed to enhance collaboration in the gas industry, facilitating exchanges in expertise, technology, and investment projects.

The visit underscored the multifaceted Turkmen-Turkish relations, emphasizing a pragmatic approach to addressing global challenges and reinforcing mutual interests. The energy partnership, a cornerstone of their cooperation, sets the stage for expanding trade in energy resources to meet growing demands.

Turkmenistan's diplomatic initiatives at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum aimed at shaping a global security architecture, reflecting the country's commitment to peaceful neutrality and international leadership. The positive agenda focuses on sustainable development goals and collaborative solutions to complex global issues. Ultimately, Turkmenistan's peaceful neutrality model embodies a form of international leadership, emphasizing mutual pragmatism and non-confrontational approaches to global challenges.
