Turkmen athletes brought home 7 medals of various degrees of merit on the first day of the 9th Central Asia Karate WKF Championship in Samarkand. The tournament, which sees the participation of 806 athletes from Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, features competitions in kata and kumite across different age categories.
Represented by 74 athletes, Turkmenistan has secured a total of 1 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals so far. The gold was clinched by A. Kakalyyev in the kumite category among boys under 14 years in the weight category up to 55 kg. G. Tagansakhedova (kata among girls under 14 years) and S. Nazarov (kumite among girls under 12 years in the weight category up to 40 kg) claimed the silver medals. The bronze medals went to O. Sapadurdyev, A. Ilgeldiyeva, M. Gaylyeva, and P. Annaev.
