The judge of Sergeli District Court in Tashkent is now a suspect in a criminal case involving fraud and bribery, as reported by the press service of the Supreme Judicial Council of Uzbekistan. On April 3, the council reviewed and approved the decision to hold Judge Sh. A. criminally responsible and strip him of his judicial powers. The criminal case has been initiated under Articles 168 (fraud) and 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code.
Details of the case are not disclosed due to the secrecy of the investigation and the presumption of innocence, according to the statement. Lawyer Abdumalik Abdullaev revealed that the judge allegedly promised to help resolve a certain case positively for $16,000, and when he failed to do so, he returned $15,000 through his brother. He was detained at the moment of returning the money.
On January 31, the Supreme Judicial Council approved the decision to prosecute and strip the chairman of Mingbulak District Court of his powers. He is suspected of bribery under Article 210 of the Criminal Code.
