Financial Monitoring Agency to Investigate Former Minister's Family Assets Post-Conviction

Deputy Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhеnis Elemesov, explained on May 22, 2024, when the agency will conduct an inspection of the assets of the family of the convicted former minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev.

According to him, as of today, the Financial Monitoring Agency does not have any registered criminal cases.

"We conduct inspections globally in terms of illegally acquired criminal income on a regular basis, and if any illegal income obtained through criminal means and laundered pops up somewhere, we will definitely hold them accountable. As for the petition - let's wait for the results of the petition and at the same time study this issue, we will definitely pay attention to it," Zhеnis Elemesov added.

In April 2024, a petition appeared on the Internet addressing the head of state. The author requests an independent investigation into the origin of the financial status and assets of the family members and relatives of Kuandyk Bishimbayev.

On November 9, 2023, it was reported that the former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev was detained on suspicion of killing his wife. The tragedy occurred at the Bau restaurant in the capital. On May 13, 2024, the court sentenced the former minister to 24 years in prison.
