Tripartite Meeting in Fergana Advances Regional Security Cooperation Efforts

In Fergana on May 6, a meeting took place between the Chairman of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan Abdusalom Azizov, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev, and the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov, as reported by the press service.

During the negotiations, the parties extensively discussed a range of issues related to regional security. There was an exchange of views on the current state and prospects of cooperation in areas such as combating terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, illegal migration, smuggling, and other cross-border threats and challenges.

The discussions also touched upon issues of border cooperation and creating favorable conditions for the development of good neighborly relations between the countries involved.

Furthermore, the dialogue included agenda items regarding the delimitation of state borders between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as the demarcation of borders between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting participants reached agreements on expediting the processes of delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border and demarcation of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border, and outlined measures to address these issues based on mutual interests.

Following the negotiations, instructions were given to members of the Kyrgyz-Tajik intergovernmental commission to finalize the remaining sections of the border and to prepare and sign the respective bilateral agreement.
