On May 28, 2024, the Committee of National Security (KNB) in Almaty detained two foreign citizens on suspicion of propagating terrorism. Currently, a pre-trial investigation is underway, as reported by the media.
According to the investigation, they had been residing abroad for a long time, where they were involved in radical religious ideology.
The KNB press service of the Republic of Kazakhstan stated that the individuals "arrived in Kazakhstan in 2024 and did not have a permanent job."
It was also mentioned that a pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Article 256 of the Criminal Code. The department clarified, "Other information is not subject to disclosure in accordance with Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code."
On May 21, 2024, the KNB released exclusive footage of a special operation from a height. During the operation in Pavlodar, over 170 kilograms of mephedrone were seized.
