Kyrgyzstan to Enforce Court Verdicts for Citizens Convicted Abroad: New Law.

in National Security / Kyrgyzstan - by

Kyrgyzstan will begin implementing court decisions of its citizens convicted in foreign countries. The Jogorku Kenesh has approved a corresponding bill in the second reading.

The decision aims to streamline the transfer process of convicts and reduce refusals from foreign countries. For instance, if a Kyrgyz citizen commits a crime in Russia that carries a lighter penalty in Kyrgyzstan, the General Prosecutor's Office may face refusals during the transfer process. Consequently, the oversight body in Kyrgyzstan must present representations to the Supreme Court for the enforcement of Russian court rulings in Kyrgyzstan.

In the initial 11 months of 2023, the General Prosecutor's Office has submitted 288 such representations to the Supreme Court.
