Chair of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, spoke at the 148th session of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva on "Parliamentary Diplomacy: Building Bridges of Peace and Understanding". She emphasized the increasing role of parliaments in the world amidst the current unpredictable international situation and lack of mutual understanding in interstate relations.
Narbaeva highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering trust between nations and preventing conflicts. She praised the IPU's initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation between parliaments to find compromise solutions in complex situations and protect the rights of vulnerable population groups.
Furthermore, Narbaeva stressed the significance of regional cooperation in establishing trust between parliamentarians and addressing common issues. She affirmed Uzbekistan's commitment to supporting IPU initiatives for the development of parliamentary diplomacy and enhancing international relations to effectively tackle global challenges.
Narbaeva also mentioned Uzbekistan's preparations to host the 150th IPU Assembly, expressing confidence that it will be a significant event leaving a lasting impression on all participants and guests. She met with the IPU President, Tulia Exson, who commended Uzbekistan for hosting the milestone Assembly and pledged efforts to make it a memorable event in the history of global parliamentarism.
Additionally, Narbaeva met with IPU Secretary-General Martin Chungong and UN Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the UN Office in Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya. They discussed Uzbekistan's efforts in implementing sustainable development goals and exchanged views on human rights, gender equality, and women's empowerment.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue the dialogue and strengthen cooperation through expanding joint projects between Uzbekistan and the UN. The discussions reflected the commitment to furthering mutual collaboration in addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development.
