Uzbekistan President Meets Chinese Official to Strengthen Cooperation

President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with the Chairman of the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China, Erkin Tuniyaz, on March 28th, as reported by the president's press service.

During the meeting, priority areas of cooperation were discussed, including the development of practical interaction between regions of Uzbekistan and XUAR.

Currently, about 10% of the mutual trade between the two countries falls on this region of China, and this figure is growing, according to the statement.

The portfolio of investment projects with companies from XUAR amounts to 3.5 billion US dollars, covering various sectors such as green energy, electrical engineering, construction, production of new types of building materials, metallurgy, infrastructure modernization, and others.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation with XUAR and accelerating joint projects. Priority areas named include innovative technologies, agriculture and water management, transport and logistics, banking and finance, education, and traditional medicine.

The talks also touched upon Uzbekistan's participation in the "China-Eurasia Expo" held annually in Urumqi, the development of humanitarian and tourism ties, and the promotion of the project to build the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway.

On the same day, negotiations with Erkin Tuniyaz were also held by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, as reported by his press service. The parties discussed expanding cooperation, especially in the fields of investments, industrial cooperation, energy, transport and logistics, agriculture, education, tourism, and others.
