Shavkat Umurzakov Approved as Tashkent Mayor

The press service of the capital's administration announced that Shavkat Umurzakov has been approved as the mayor of Tashkent. The approval took place during a session of the city council on April 3, attended by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the statement from the Tashkent administration, Umurzakov has shown himself to be a strict and fair leader who is committed to the goals outlined in Uzbekistan's Development Strategy 2030. These goals focus on the comfort and safety of the city's residents and guests, improving its investment climate, and achieving environmental sustainability.

Umurzakov had been acting as the mayor for exactly one year, starting from March 24 of the previous year. Born in 1979, he previously headed the Department for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption at the General Prosecutor's Office from 2013 to 2018. He also led the Department for Combating Economic Crime and Corruption at the Prosecutor's Office of the Tashkent Region from June 2011 to September 2013. From June 2018 to March 2023, he served as the chairman of the board of Uzavtosanoat company.
