Transformation of Tashkent Neighborhoods Under New Leadership

in Politics / Uzbekistan - by

The newly appointed mayor of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzakov, is implementing a unified mechanism for the operation of neighborhoods, as announced by the capital's administration. This initiative aims to standardize the infrastructure and appearance of neighborhoods, creating a transparent monitoring system to keep residents informed about plans and changes.

The goal is to empower citizens with the actual management of neighborhoods, while officials are tasked with ensuring the comfort and safety of the city's residents in line with the directives of the state leadership. Last week, a working group led by the mayor visited several neighborhoods to assess the situation critically.

There is a recognized need to establish essential amenities in each neighborhood, such as food and dairy product outlets, safe roads, playgrounds, spaces for leisure activities for all age groups, bicycle and jogging tracks, as well as a systematic approach to crime prevention.

The focus is on providing consistent support to the population in need of social protection, ensuring employment for the unemployed, with banks playing a significant role in fostering entrepreneurship. Additionally, controlling the population size and registration of residents in neighborhoods is highlighted.

The introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is planned to engage employees like street supervisors and motivate those who organize their work most effectively. Discussions also revolved around removing illegal constructions in neighborhoods, repurposing them into beneficial spaces for residents, and enhancing security through the installation of surveillance cameras.
