The Presidents of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, recently met at the state residence "Palace of the Nation" in Dushanbe to discuss deepening political dialogue, enhancing trade and economic cooperation, expanding interregional contacts, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
Both leaders expressed their mutual desire to continue constructive cooperation within regional structures and on international platforms to promote common interests and ensure sustainable development in Central Asia.
The signing of the historic Treaty of Alliance signifies a new phase in Uzbek-Tajik relations, aiming to increase the effectiveness of contacts at all levels. Over the years, trade turnover has increased significantly, with a surge in joint ventures. The governments have set a goal to boost trade turnover to $2 billion through expanding mutual supplies and launching border trade zones.
A business forum held prior to the visit resulted in a robust portfolio of new cooperation projects and trade contracts, particularly in industries such as engineering, electronics, energy, mining, agriculture, textiles, and pharmaceuticals.
Concrete plans were outlined for project implementation through the joint Investment Company. The importance of enhancing cultural and humanitarian exchanges, expanding educational cooperation, and developing accessible tourism programs was emphasized.
Mirziyoyev invited Rahmon to visit Uzbekistan at his convenience. Discussions in the expanded format focused on deepening strategic partnership and alliance in political, trade, transport, and cultural spheres.
Both Presidents acknowledged the unprecedented level of friendly relations achieved through high-level dialogue, stressing the untapped potential for comprehensive cooperation. Efforts to enhance efficiency in contacts at all levels, including parliaments, governments, foreign ministries, and regions, were highlighted.
Solid agreements on joint implementation of key projects in various sectors were welcomed as drivers for industrial cooperation. Water management issues, transport collaboration, and transit shipments were identified as strategic directions for mutual cooperation.
The Presidents also addressed the need for close collaboration in addressing modern challenges, advancing socio-economic projects in Afghanistan, and preparing a joint roadmap for effective implementation of agreements reached during the meeting.
